What is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain refers to persistent or recurring pain which lasts for a longer period such as weeks, months and even years. The factors that lead to chronic pain are surgeries, accidents, nerve damage, inflammation and other medical conditions. The patients who have been experiencing pain for the past three months or more are eligible to enrol into Chronic Pain Management program.

FAQ

The patient must be experiencing persistent or recurrent pain lasting longer than 3 months.

A verbal consent can be taken at the initial visit and it should be documented in the Patient’s medical record. In addition to this, the patient must be educated about the program and the services that will be provided. Written consent is not mandatory.

The type of services that can be provided under CPM are medication management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pain education, interventional procedures and lifestyle modifications.

The care plan for Chronic Pain Management should include diagnosis, assessment, monitoring of the pain, strengths, goals, clinical needs and desired outcomes.
